Norden Old Library Opens

Friday 12th November marked a major milestone in the history of Norden Old Library, when Trustees held an evening reception to officially open the newly-refurbished building. A gathering of forty plus people, including Trustees and their families, local Councillors, suppliers and supporters of the venture enjoyed a scrumptious party.

The party marked the culmination of four years of hard work by the dedicated band of seven Trustees to turn the former Norden District Council Offices into community facilities. Guests were treated to a guided tour of Ground Floor rooms which now feature a Community cafe area and a multi-use Meeting Room.

The Community Cafe features brightly coloured fitted seating with matching stools and free-standing chairs. Part of this area is a well equipped catering kitchen with bio-safe cladding and a serve-over counter. This area is equipped with two 42" televisions, a touch-screen jukebox, as well as a computer games link.

The Multi-use Room features flexible tables and seating, making it an ideal small meeting or conference room. The room is provided with an array of power and data points, as well as a multi-media projector. The high-tech audio-visual system throughout the Building was made possible by a grant from the High Sherriff`s Fund and gives the Building important features attractive to the whole Village community.

The gathering of invited guests heard Stephen Haslam describe the evening as the culmination of years of effort by the Trustees, their advisers and supporters. He went on to thank the children of two Trustees for allowing their parents to spend so much time in the Building, before asking Mr Dennis Milne a senior citizen and lifelong Norden resident to cut a ribbon and declare the Building open.

Norden Carnival Presents Cheque

One of many highlights of the Norden Old Library opening was the presentation by Rachel Blackburn, Chair of Norden Carnival Committee, of a cheque to boost the funds of the Trust.
