Trustees go Over the Edge to raise money
for Norden Old Library
Last month Norden Old Library was bought for community use by the Norden Community Trust. The building had been empty for a number of years and recently suffered badly from internal vandalism. Norden Old Library is also in need of a new fit out, repairs to the clock, plus the installation of disabled access and toilets. Trustees are now launching a big fundraising campaign. They have set up a Just Giving site online as well as asking businesses in Norden to get on board by putting money boxes in shops. Trustees Kath Wilson and Wera Hobhouse together with their families are entering the Over The Edge Bike ride to raise money for Norden Old Library.
Wera says: “I was a bit worried to enter the event because I am not brilliant on hills. William and I went for a trial run from Littleborough up to the White House to see whether I could get to the top without dropping dead. I have to admit that I got off my bike near the top and pushed for a bit. I hope that is allowed. I have been inspired to go for the challenge by Colin Fielding who was Man of the year 2008 for bringing the Over The Edge Bike Ride to Rochdale and raising thousands of pounds for the British Heart Foundation. Colin who is a cobbler by trade, cycles from his home in Syke to his shop in Norden every day. Coincidentally his shop is right outside Norden Old Library. So it all fits nicely together!”
The Trans Pennine Cycling Club together with Rochdale Council and the Rochdale Observer has been hosting the event for the last 11 years. There is a choice of three circular routes ranging from a 22 mile ride to a 52 mile ride. Each route will be clearly signposted and marshalled on the day through the Trans Pennine Cycling Club.
